Gevgelija is situated in south-eastern Macedonia, on the Vardar river. The city is on the border (or graniça) with Greece, on the main north-south transport route including the highway and railway line to the Greek port of Thessaloniki (Solun).
Gevgelija has a Mediterranean climate and can be the warmest city in the country. Many types of citrus fruit, figs and vegetables grow in the ideal Mediterranean climate of the area. The area is also suited to the cultivation of grapes and many vineyards are located here. Gevegelija also has a well developed light industry and trade.
The village of Negorci with its spas attracts tourists from all over Macedonia and abroad.
