Bathurst Wallabies Triathlon Club - Presidents report July 2008

What a year, what a season. Our first full season as a fully functioning tri club was, I believe, a roaring success. Importantly there were no major injuries during racing, but unfortunately we lost a dear friend whilst training. The dedication of our club championship race to David Carrol and David Scott was a fitting tribute. Jody Parker also sustained a major injury whilst training which put him out of contention for Port Macquarie Ironman.

We were fortunate throughout the season with the weather and I think this enhanced the spirit of each race meeting. Races were well attended, particularly by the juniors which is where our future lies.

In addition to hosting a round of the interclub series, to have over 200 athletes compete in the memorial race was something that the club can be very proud of.

I can’t imagine what the cumulative training and racing mileage would have been over the past season for a number of our members, but I am sure it would show that dedication to a sport that allows acquaintances to become friends can’t be a bad thing. A number of our juniors tasted success at various race meetings throughout Australia and a number of the seniors also showed that we can compete with the best of the age groupers at any race distance.

Without dedicated volunteers, supporters, and participants, the opportunity to grow and prosper would be missed. Looking at the range of ages, skills, abilities and sheer passion for the sport of triathlon that was displayed in the past season, I think this club has a great future.

I would like to thank all the committee members for their contribution during the season and all those who helped at each race meeting.

As we head into a new season, lets hope that we can replicate the good bits, learn from our mistakes and enjoy another great season of triathlon racing.
