Alfred Bennett married Eliza Catherine Roberts at St. Mary’s, Lambeth, Surrey 10th Dec 1849. Her father was John Roberts, gun maker. Alfred and Eliza had only one child — Alfred John Bennett born during May 1861 and baptised at St. Anne, Soho, Westminster on the 2nd Jun 1861. He became a jeweller and married Catherine Mary Avery at St. Anne’s on 19th Dec 1889. Alfred John changed his occupation to that of Artist sometime after the 1891 census. He had become very successful with oil paintings, watercolours and etchings. Alfred John Bennett is said to have taken his studio from Thornton Heath in Surrey to Knebworth in Hertfordshire in 1917 not all that far from his wife's parent's farm in East Hyde — they were deceased, no doubt!. Has to be a reason for the move up there, apart from the bombing of London by the Germans at that time! He died in 1922 after a very successful career including works hung at the Royal Academy of Art in London. ( Research continuing on this family).
