The Impaled Possum

According to Dictionary.com, Impale means:
1.   a) To pierce with a sharp stake or point.
b) To torture or kill by impaling.
2. To render helpless as if by impaling.

It was a rather gloomy November afternoon when Neferneferuaten-Tasherit decided to make herself a Milo. She could hear her mother talking to somebody in the hall, but assumed it was nothing out of the ordinary. Neferneferuaten-Tasherit was wrong. Very wrong.

It was an old lady from the old folks home next door. It's one of those 'retirement' places for women over 55, preferably who are war widows. Not the point though.

They women were letting us know that there was a dead possum in our yard.

Mum thanked them and they left. Neferneferuaten-Tasherit continued to make her Milo, spilling just a little bit of it on the bench, as usual, and as usual, she swept it onto the floor with her hands.

Mum told Neferneferuaten-Tasherit what had happened. Dead possum. Great. Neferneferuaten-Tasherit and her mother wandered casually into the dimly-sunlit yard and looked on the ground for the possum. No such luck. One of the old ladies popped her head over the fence, or as close to the top of it as she could, seeing as she was short, and told them it was on the fence.

Yes indeed. It was on the fence.

It was stuck on the fence.

It was impaled by the fence.

You see, this is no ordinary garden fence separating one yard from the next. On our side of the fence there is also a weird wire construction, possibly for growing vines on. It looks kind of like this:

By the way, the green stuff is overgrown shrubbery stuff. Note the spikey bits at the top, and the brown bits (fence palings) in behind.

The possum had been impaled by the spikes possibly used for growing vines on. That is, it was pierced with a sharp stake or point.

Dead.

Killed.

Byebye.

Don't believe Neferneferuaten-Tasherit ? She has photographic evidence.

See the fence with the wire stuff in front? Also see the possum attached to the wire stuff? Mmm... lovely!

A closer-up view. This is as close as Neferneferuaten-Tasherit dared to venture.

Think this is even better than Tail of a Tale?

Oh yeah, there's also a possum or two or three, also dead, in the walls of Neferneferuaten-Tasherit's house.

So at the moment there are several dead possums, and a tail, and a foot of a possum. Delicious.

Oh yeah. It's not our fault. The thing was there when we bought the house. Oh well :)
