Italian cooking: something to think about

Italian Cooking - My husband claims to love my cooking. I’m not sure what is wrong with him, but he does. He especially loves when I make Italian dishes, though we both know that I don’t really know anything about true Italian cooking. My sauce secret is not really a secret at all. If anything, my secret is how to get the jar open when it seems to be sealed too tightly. I do make a good lasagna, and spaghetti is always a hit here, but it isn’t true Italian cooking, and we all know it. All the same, what matters is that we love it and it works well for us.

If you have the same affliction I do, you can do something about it. If you aren’t happy with sauce from a jar, you can most certainly learn Italian cooking to make your own special sauce to serve to your family. You can find cooking classes in your community, or you can train to become a chef at a two year school. You can even sign up to take just a few classes if Italian cooking is all that you are interested in learning. Even better, if you have a friend or family member who is a great chef or cook, you can ask them to teach you something about Italian cooking.

I had a roommate in college who was proud of her Italian heritage, as what her entire family. They were a hoot to be around, and their family gatherings were always full of great food. Her mom took pride in her Italian cooking, and you could taste it in every bite she served. I’ll never forget the love that family shared during their family gatherings, and I remember that it centered around the food, and the tradition of Italian cooking. Her mom said if a sauce can be cooked in under a few hours, it wasn’t really sauce.

You can tackle Italian cooking on your own by experimenting in your own kitchen. You can find great recopies for Italian dishes in cookbooks and online. Find a few that you are interested in, but make sure you choose simple ones first. Usually getting the basics down first is the best step towards creating your own dishes. Once you get the hang of Italian dishes, the sky is the limit. You can then experiment and create your own special sauce to serve to your own family for special events, or for an evening at home alone.
