Handicap System

1. The handicapping system will be at the discretion of the handicapper at all times.

2. New players without an AGU handicap will be required to play TWO games of golf so that a handicap may be allocated. During these games they will be eligible to win "nearest the pin" "pro's approach" and long drives only.

3. Reductions will be made to the winners and runner-ups handicaps by one of two methods. The method which gives the greater reduction is to be taken.

Method 2
Determine the number of strokes/points that the player, played better than the calculated course rating (CCR). If the CCR is unavailable then the ACR for the course will be used. Multiply the number of strokes better than the CCR, by the multiplication factor below and deduct the result from their handicap.

4. Other members who break their handicap against the CCR will have their handicap revised in accordance with method 2.

5. Players, whose score is equal to the CCR, or have played up to 2 strokes worse than the CCR will have no change to their handicap.

6. Players, whose score has not been adjusted as a result of paragraphs 3, 4 or 5 shall have their handicap increased as per the following table.

7. Handicaps for the day will be calculated to the nearest whole number. E.g. .5 rounds up to the next whole number and .4 rounds down.

8. For Ambrose events, no adjustments will be made to handicaps. For 4 ball events, handicap reductions will be half those stipulated in para 3, method 1. No handicap increases will be made following these types of events.

9. To maintain a valid club handicap a player must have played at least 2 single stableford, stroke or V Par matches in the previous 12 months with SCSC Golf. If a player has not played 2 games in the previous 12 months with SCSC Golf but has a valid AGU handicap then the lower handicap of the 2 will be used.

10. Handicap maximums: Men - 36, Ladies - 40

11. Handicap Establishment
Reduce the score on each hole to a maximum of 2 over par for each hole.
For handicap - Add the adjusted score and deduct the ccr/par to obtain handicap (max of 36/40)
Add 2 adjusted cards and divide result by 2 to obtain initial club handicap.

Example 1
40 individual stableford points on a handicap of 22 and the CCR was 72 on a par 72 course. Therefore 36 stableford points would be square with the card

40 - 36 = 4 x .4 = a reduction in handicap of 1.6

But if they were the winner then their handicap would be decreased by 3 as per item 3 method 1 or as runner up by 1.6 as it is greater than the 1.5 stipulated at item 3 method 1.

Example 2
40 individual stableford points on a handicap of 15 and the CCR was 70 on a par 72 course. Therefore 38 stableford points would be square with the card

40 - 38 = 2 x .3 = a reduction in handicap of 0.6

But if they were the winner then their handicap would be decreased by 2 or as runner up by 1 as per item 3 method 1.

Example 3
Net individual stroke score of 64 and the CCR was 70 on a par 72 course. Handicap is 33.

70 - 64 = 6 x .5 = a reduction in handicap of 3.0

But if they were the winner then their handicap would be decreased by 4 or as runner up by 2 as per item 3 method 1.
