Sunnybank Community Social Golf Club
Handicap System

1.    The handicapping system will be at the discretion of the handicapper at all times
2.    New players without an AGU handicap will be required to play two games of golf so that a handicap may be allocated for the third game.  During these games they will be eligible to win “nearest the pin” “pro’s approach” and long drives only.
3.    A player may not win a competition twice in a row. A player who returns the best score for a grade but had won at the previous competition is only eligible to win the runner-ups prize.
4.    Handicaps will be calculated from a rolling sample of the player’s previous 20 scores. If a player’s handicap record contains a lesser number than 20 scores, the number of scores used to calculate the player’s handicap is as listed in the table below.
5.    Once a player’s handicap record contains 20 scores, the next score they return will result in the oldest of the existing 20 scores being removed (to be replaced by the new score). Hence, the handicap record is considered to be a ‘rolling sample’ of the player’s scores.
6.    Handicap Differential Method 1 is to be used for all players, except for Grade winners and Runner-ups who will use the method which gives the lowest differential between Method 1 and Method 2.

  • Method 1

Handicap Differential = Gross Score – AMCR/AWCR
Note the handicap differential that goes into a players handicap record will be capped at no more than the following amount over the course rating: 50 for women and 40 for men.
[AMCR = Australian Men’s Course Rating; AWCR = Australian Women’s Course Rating.]

7.    For Ambrose events, no adjustments will be made to handicaps.  For 4 ball events, handicap reductions will be half those stipulated in para 6, method 2.  No handicap increases will be made following these types of events.
8.    Handicap maximums:   Men – 36,   Ladies – 45
9.    The procedure for calculating Women’s & Men’s Handicap will be by the
Rolling Sample Handicap Differential Method as follows:

STEP 1 – Use the table below to determine the number of Handicap Differentials to be included in the handicap calculation.

Calculation

STEP 2 – Average the Handicap Differentials being used (as determined by the above table).
STEP 3
– Multiply the average by 0.93. (Note: This is the ‘bonus for excellence’ factor. Bonus for excellence is the incentive for players to improve their golf game. As a player’s handicap improves (gets lower), the player has a slightly better chance of placing high or winning a handicap event.)
STEP 4 – After applying STEP 3, delete all numbers after the tenths’ digit. Do NOT round to the nearest tenth. (For example 23.6983 becomes 23.6.)
STEP 5 – In the example provided in STEP 4, the exact Handicap is therefore 23.6. (Note: The playing handicap is determined by rounding off the exact handicap. (For this calculation, .5 or more IS rounded up, so in this example the player with an exact handicap of 23.6 will play off 24.)

10.    Handicap Establishment

  • Reduce the score on each hole to a maximum of 2 over par for each hole for men and 2.5 for ladies.

  • For handicap – Add the adjusted score and deduct the ACR to obtain handicap (max of 36/45)

  • Add 2 adjusted cards and divide result by 2 to obtain initial club handicap.

  • After 3rd game use calculation method as detailed in paragraph 9
