Scholarship Thank You Letter - One of the most important parts of getting a scholarship is actually the scholarship thank you letter. After all, if you’re getting lots of money to help you attend the college of your choice, it’s important to thank the people who are being generous enough to give that money to you. It’s actually so important that some colleges refuse to disburse scholarship funds until after you do write and sign a thank you letter.
However, most students are not sure how they should go about writing a scholarship thank you letter and what they should say in it. Don’t worry. First of all, you’re not the only student to ever be unsure of what to say in a thank you letter. Second of all, you don’t have to say too much in order to get the point across. Generally it’s mostly the thought that counts – since it’s very polite to thank people for giving you money.
The first thing that you should put in a thank you letter is a little bit of information about how grateful you are for the money. You don’t need to go on and on about this, generally a short thank you will suffice. In fact, you should be careful about writing too much about how grateful you are – if you use prose that’s too flowery, it might sound like you’re lying, or like you’re just trying to sound nice. It’s bad to write a thank you letter that sounds fake.
Another thing to consider is that most of the people giving out scholarships are genuinely interested in students and in the entire college experience. Therefore, it can’t hurt to give them a little bit of information about what you intend to study at college. Plus, putting this information in a scholarship thank you letter gives the person who gave you the scholarship the feeling that their money is going to good use.
Finally, it’s always a good idea to put a little bit about where you intend to go with the rest of your life as a result of your education in your scholarship thank you letter. This shows that you understand the value of the college education that your scholarship is helping you to attain.
