Classroom Seating Charts - If you’re looking for something to help you keep order in your classroom, seating charts are always an option. In fact, for elementary school kids, it’s recommended that you always make seating charts. These charts do not have to be particularly difficult, and you can put them together in a fairly random fashion. You can also let children put together their own seating charts, but that’s not really recommended unless you can be sure that they’ll design a seating chart that will also let them stay focused on class work.
One major advantage of classroom seating charts is that they allow you a very easy way to keep students from being distracted by their friends. It’s usually recommended that you seat children who talk to one another a lot on opposite sides of the classroom. That way, there’s a lower chance that the children will be distracted from your teaching by talking about completely unrelated subjects. You can also use a seating chart to make sure that students who have fights on a regular basis are not sitting next to one another.
Another advantage is that you can make sure that students who need to sit closer to the class are allowed to do so. If you have any students with sight or hearing problems, you can sit them in the front of the class so that they don’t have any trouble hearing or seeing your lesson. You can also make sure that students who have a tendency to goof off during class time are not sitting in the back of the room. Most children will behave if they’re sitting nearer to the teacher.
While keeping children in the same chairs for a few weeks at the beginning of school will help you to learn their names, it’s always a good idea to switch up the seating arrangement after a while. This does a few things. First, it will make sure that kids don’t get tired with where they’re sitting – and it will also allow kids to sit next to new children. This is important for their social development, since they’ll learn to work with other children on their class projects.
