The Cultural Affairs Department at Miami-Dade Community College produces and presents challenging contemporary and culturally specific work from the U.S. and abroad. Committed to showcasing work that is reflective of Miami’s multi-ethnic community, the Cultural Affairs Department places particular emphasis on the cultural expressions of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Department houses the Cultura del Lobo Performance Series, which brings exceptional performing artists to the region and provides opportunities for extensive community engagement: through residencies in the public schools, on-site within the six-campus Miami-Dade Community College system, and through partnerships with local arts providers, social service agencies and community centers.
MDCC’s Cultural Affairs Department also houses the Center for Cultural Collaborations International which advocates for and produces international artistic collaborations between U.S.-based artists and their colleagues in Latin America and the Caribbean. Additional projects of the Department include the Jazz Outreach Project, an intensive public school residency program that increases awareness of and appreciation for jazz among young audiences; and the Cuban Cinema Series, a curated series of films pivotal to the development of Cuban cinema and reflective of Cuban politics.
