Teaching Supplies - In recent years, due to budget constraints, many schools have been forced to cut back on the money made available for art programming. Indeed, many schools have cut out art classes all together.
When these schools terminated their art curriculum, a number of private benefactors stepped in at various locations and began to fund art programming independently from the school system or district.
One of the primary focuses of these private sources of funding was to find teaching supplies for art rooms. An example of what private funding sources are doing in the way of teaching supplies for art rooms can be found in the work of various art councils in the United States.
An art council, in the simplest of terms, is an umbrella organization dedicated to advancing and supporting the arts in a given community. Arts councils, in recent years, have also become more active in promoting and funding arts in education programs. It is through these arts in education programs that teaching supplies for art rooms are being made more widely available.
Various arts councils have undertaken annual fundraising drives to solicit money from their patrons to ensure that there are teaching supplies available in art classrooms around their service are. These fundraising projects have taken a variety of forms. For example, some art councils host celebrity auctions at which various items provided by famous folk are auctioned off to raise money for teaching supplies in the arts classroom.
Another example of a fundraising project used by arts councils are art sales. In many cases, these arts councils arrange for local celebrities to paint pictures or create other forms of visual art that are then sold at the sale to benefit students.
With the support of the community, schools will be able to ensure that there are teaching supplies for art students everywhere. It is important for students to receive well rounded educations and the arts need to be a part of that process.
