Suffolk Community College - Suffolk Community College is a thriving institution of higher education and part of the highly regarded State University System of New York (SUNY). Suffolk Community College is well known in New York for its fine mathematics department.
Serving 10,000 students each year in a variety of curricula and customized programs, the Mathematics Department offers a full range of offerings from developmental courses through honors sections and special topics courses. Among its students, the Department serves mathematics majors and participants in virtually all degree programs in daytime, evening, weekend and summer sessions.
Courses are offered both on campus and at many off-campus locations.
The Mathematics Department’s Mission Statement reads, in part:
“promote a high level of student achievement in mathematics through challenging coursework, appropriate diagnostic testing and placement assistance at the Mathematics Learning Center, and through interaction with a distinguished and dedicated faculty.”
Suffolk Community College also has an intensive program to reach out to the Native American community. The school attempts to recruit Native American students. Additionally, Suffolk Community College also hosts a number of special programs and projects throughout the year designed to celebrate the Native American presence and influence in that part of New York.
These programs and events include a Native American heritage film program and similar activities conducted throughout the school year.
Suffolk Community College also offers a wide ranging tele-course program. Students can ear degrees from Suffolk Community College through the tele-course program just as if they were attending courses on campus.
Suffolk Community College also arranges for a number of intensive internship programs for its students in a variety of disciplines. The school believes that hands on training in the workaday world is vital to creating a well rounded student. And, they’ve concluded (and rightly so) that a well rounded students is more employable in the final analysis.
