Saddleback College is known for its solid Arts Department. The Art Department is committed to the belief that man’s reflection of life is manifested through his or her art. Students are able to fully appreciate art and man’s artistic expressions through study, observation and experience.
The art facilities include studios for ceramics, crafts, painting, drawing, printmaking and design, plus large lecture rooms and a gallery, where exhibitions and installations are presented on a regular basis and where students learn how to plan, design and organize space. The Department enhances its instructional program by inviting guest artists and craftsmen to participate in master classes and workshops.
The highly creative and diverse photography program is a training ground for the career-minded student, the artist, and the amateur photographer. Curriculum offerings involve students in both technical and aesthetic concerns and explore the creation of visual imagery through a host of photographic techniques and processes. The facilities include a darkroom with a complete range of equipment where students can expand and indulge their creativity and self-expression.
The Theatre Arts Department serves as an educational base, a vocational training ground and an artistic resource for the community. By combining production excellence with academic achievement, the Department fulfills its role as a leader in the performing arts in Orange County.
Acting, directing, production, design and dramatic literature are all important facets of the Theatre Arts program. Each year the Department presents a diverse production season which combines high artistic standards with public appeal, and which challenges and expands the talents of students both on stage and behind the scenes.
