The Oklahoma State Department of Education defines its mission as follows:
“our mission at the Oklahoma State Department of Education, is to improve student success through: service to schools, parents and students; leadership for education reform; and regulation/ deregulation of state and federal laws to provide accountability while removing any barriers to student success.”
The Schools Attuned Program, Oklahoma is a state initiative funded by the Oklahoma Legislature through the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Thanks to the commitment of state legislators and educational leaders, public schools in Oklahoma can train teams of teachers in this approach without incurring the $1500 per participant fee.
Oklahoma is the second state in the country to launch a statewide Schools Attuned Program initiative. The Schools Attuned Program, Oklahoma is modeled after the nationally known Schools Attuned Program. The program is adapted to meet the priorities of Oklahoma classrooms and schools.
Participants learn a process of systematically observing and describing students’ strengths and weaknesses and using the information to develop a plan for managing these strengths and weaknesses in the classroom.
Following the completion of the Core Course, participants continue their professional growth by participating in a yearlong Practicum. Practicum is designed to deepen participant’s knowledge of neurodevelopmental constructs and functions and assist educators as they implement Schools Attuned in their classrooms and schools.
An added benefit for OK educators is the support of a full-time regional coordinator. These coordinators are former OK teachers who have experience using Schools Attuned in their classrooms. They are available to work with school teams and individual teachers as they implement Schools Attuned.
