Georgia Board Of Education - Learning in the Peach Tree State is overseen by the Georgia Board of Education. In recent years, the Georgia Board of Education instituted a uniform testing program to monitor the progress of Georgia students. The purpose of the Georgia Testing Program is to measure the level of student achievement of the Quality Core Curriculum (QCC) standards, to identify students failing to achieve mastery of content, to provide teachers with diagnostic information, and to assist school systems in identifying strengths and weaknesses in order to establish priorities in planning educational programs.
In order to fulfill the purpose and maintain the integrity of the statewide testing program, test security must be established. Occurrences that violate test security risk damage to test integrity and could result in the invalidation of a system’s test scores.
In addition, the Georgia Governor’s Office has taken a larger role in monitoring student progress in Georgia in recent years. The Office of Student Achievement (OSA), formerly known as the Office of Education Accountability (OEA), was established July 1, 2000, by Georgia Code 20-14-25 to improve student achievement and school completion in Georgia.
OSA publishes annual accountability report cards on K-12 Public Schools, the Department of Technical and Adult Education (DTAE), the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GAPSC), the Office of School Readiness (OSR), and the University System of Georgia.
The Georgia Board of Education does not handle or oversee teacher certification in the State of Georgia. This is done by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
