Kingwood High School - The groundbreaking Kingswood High School in Texas is one of only thirty-one schools nationwide to be recognized for reform efforts in the newly published book, Breaking Ranks II: Strategies for Leading High School Reform.
In the acclaimed book, Kingswood High School is acknowledged for its work with smaller learning communities, flexible scheduling, advisories, and teachers’ collaboration time.
A follow-up to the 1996 seminal report Breaking Ranks: Changing an American Institution, Breaking Ranks II, featuring the work of Kingswood High School, engages principals, teacher leaders, and the entire school community in reforming the American high school into an academically rigorous, personalized learning environment that is improved through collaborative leadership.
Where Breaking Ranks I presented a vision of a dramatically different high school for the 21st century, Breaking Ranks II takes a step further by outlining strategies for positive change that have proven successful in high school settings ... especially at Kingswood High School.
In the midst of a dramatically changing society, Kingswood High School believes that a positive and relevant educational environment is a prerequisite for equipping students with the necessary skills for life in a global community.
Kingswood High School has also instituted a special program to involve its students in national responsibility, organising such things as food drives to aid hurricane victims and to step in the case of other national catastrophes.
