Burroughs High School - John Burroughs High School in Burbank California creates an equal partnership between students, teaching staff and parents.
Its mission, says the Burroughs High School principal, is to create a learning environment where students grow and succeed academically, socially, and vocationally in an environment that is supportive and responsive by involving all those with a vested interest in its success.
The school’s total enrollment of 2,263 is a refreshing ethnic mix of African-American, Native-American, Asian, Filipino, Hispanic, Latino, Pacific Islanders, white and others.
Burroughs High School is a comprehensive high school, which offers programs for all students. There is an extensive performing arts program, which includes band, choir, dance and drama. In the area of practical arts it offers art, drafting, photo and video production. There is a renowned athletic program offering a wide range of opportunities for students to excel.
The Burroughs High School has a reputation for academic excellence with a score of 742 on the Academic Performance Index and has exceeded its API goal for five consecutive years. Soon, Burroughs High School will introduce new advanced placement courses in European History, Economics, and Music Theory. Additionally, two large shops have opened which feature courses in wood and aircraft and small engines.
A variety of activities are available on the Burroughs High School campus and include such programs as Business Academy, Industrial Technology Academy, Career Paths Advanced Placement and Honors Courses, School to Career, 9th and 10th Grade Clusters, Journalism/Newspaper, Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, Drama, Photography, Speech and Debate, Athletics and others.
Burroughs High School has now completed phase three of a multi-million dollar modernization project, which includes a new auditorium and vocational arts building. The entire campus is a high tech, user friendly facility to prepare students for success in high school and beyond.
