Daniel Tze Huei Lai's Homepage
B. Eng in Electrical and Computer Systems (2001) and Ph.D (2002-2006) [Monash University, Australia]. Currently working as a research fellow in the Centre for Aging, Rehabitilation, Exercise and Sports (CARES), Victoria University and affliated with the Intelligent Sensors, Sensor Networks and Information Processing (ISSNIP) research network. My research interests cover intelligent model design, signal processing and sensor developments for healthcare problems.
Research Area of Interest
Proactive Monitoring for Healthcare Applications
An emerging paradigm in telemedicine is the
use of sensor networks to monitor health. These networks can
be categorized as Body Area Networks (networks residing on the
body), Personal Area Networks (networks formed by sensors in
the vincinity) or traditional infrastructure monitoring
networks (video monitoring and surveillence in residential
homes) We term a collection of these networks in simultaneous
operation for the purpose of monitoring the well-being of a
user as healthcare sensor networks. Our current
interest in this area is in the investigation and engineering design of
practical healthcare sensor networks which incorporate human
motion sensing, human movement models and actuator feedback. These networks will provide alternative
monitoring strategies/solutions to a global healthcare system
that is currently (2009) suffering severe shortages in medical
personnel and expertise.
