Malacca
After a 2-hour bus trip from Kuala Lumpur, which is not very scenic, this historic town on the coast was a huge disappointment.
It's not at all tourist-friendly. At the bus terminal just out of the town centre, the information desk had no material on Malacca, nor was there any at the main shopping mall in the town.
Although maps indicate there are many interesting historical places to see, there seems no easy way of getting to see them. Local taxis all wanted to charge exhorbitant prices. There were a lot lined up, but I was told that none would drive on the meter. I could not find any sightseeing bus services.
I caught a local bus direct into town, about 10 minutes away, and got off the central shopping mall. Just another suburban mall of no great interest! Wandered round the town a bit, but there are no signs in english and I couldn't even see which way to the beach. There were a few tourists walking around looking as bored as I was.
So I caught a local suburban bus back to the main bus terminal, which took about 20 minutes driving round the suburbs---nothing much of interest to see, mostly pretty old and decrepit. It's quite a small town.
Nothing to photograph.
Don't bother to go unless you have your own transport or perhaps can share a taxi for some sightseeing, though I have the feeling that might be disappointing. There are several hotels, but you certainly wouldn't want to stay there.
