Trens and Bases----Trains and Buses in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur possesses several different train companies plus a monorail. All run on different lines criss-crossing the city on different levels. Some of the trains are driverless.

All except the monorail run through "Sentral Station". The monorail is 5 minutes walk away.

The monorail is a good way to get around the various shopping centres in Kuala Lumpur. Tickets are 40c to $1.60.

Train stations are very clean---there are cleaning ladies continually sweeping the platforms with whisk brooms.

There are about 36 different bus companies--some local, many intercity. There is huge competition between them---they are all out to sell you tickets and their buses are most luxurious and kept in immaculate condition.

Most of the intercity buses are double-decker tourist-type buses. Prices are about A$6-$8 for a 2-hour journey.

The main bus terminal is Putrajaya in the Chinatown area. There are about 36 ticket offices for all the different companies. Most of the big intercity buses run hourly with each bus company. It's all a bit confusing for a while.
