Despite budget crises, there are some school districts saving money.

School Districts Saving Money - With funding for education being cut in many states, a lot of different school districts are feeling the crunch. As a result, for many school districts, saving money where possible is a distinct goal. Some of the different things that have been tried before the districts resort to cutting classes and firing teachers are very interesting, and some of them work fairly well.

In some school districts around the country, there have been attempts to save money on things such as school lunches by using creative ways to buy food in bulk and for cheaper. For example, some smaller school districts have joined together to form food co-ops. This is a very useful tactic, and has resulted in the large food order getting bids from several different food suppliers. What these school districts have found is that they’re able to save tens of thousands of dollars each year through the use of multi-district food co-ops. For these school districts, saving money is a reality, instead of just something that they would like to have happen. This saved money can then be spent on buying new books or classroom furniture.

Not all school districts have found easy to use and harmless ways to save money. In fact, most school districts have been driven to cut funding to necessary services and employees. For example, some districts have been forced to save money by firing teachers – which makes the existing classes larger, reducing the chances that any of the children in the class will get one-on-one attention. Other cost reducing tactics have included holding classes in teacher’s lounges and closets so that money doesn’t need to be spent on portable classrooms or updating the school’s structure.

If your school district is having trouble paying for everything that it needs and cutting out teachers, rooms and even classes is the only alternative, then you should definitely suggest some different cost-saving measures. You could show examples of the many school districts saving money in new and interesting ways, for example starting a food co-op. In any case, all school districts should try to save money in ways that don’t require for the district to give up important services, teachers, and classes.
