Lloyd Banks - If you like rap music or the hip hop genre, you’ve probably heard the name lloyd banks mentioned before. He’s an up and coming artist, gaining all sorts of popularity on the radio and MTV scene as well. For those of you who have never heard of him before, lloyd banks is worth the time of listening to.
Raised in Jamaica, Queens by his Puerto Rican mother, lloyd banks father spent most of his sons childhood behind bars. Like many other younger men, lloyd found solace among the poverty and ruin of his community through ghetto poetry and the work of rappers such as Big Daddy Kane and Slick Rick.
At the age of sixteen, lloyd banks dropped out of high school, finding the structured environment a hinder to his developing talent for rhyming. He had a rough childhood, and did everything he could to pursue a career in what he loved the most. While many downed him for dropping out of high school at such a young age, he did what he thought to be the best for pursing his career.
After appearing on numerous local mixed tapes, lloyd banks along with his childhood friends Tony Yayo and 50 Cent formed the crew known as G Unit. This group proceeded to refine the term “street marketing” with a series of self released albums that included original woks, original numbers, and high quality artwork.
Over the last few years, lloyd banks stayed on with 50 Cent, appearing on the artists now classic 2003 debut “get rich or die trying”. November of that very same year saw the release of G Units high anticipated Beg for mercy album. As expected, the album went right to the top of music sales.
The long awaited solo debut of lloyd banks was released in June of 2004. The album was entitled “hunger for more”, and was highly anticipated. The album is a tribute to the dreams of banks, as well as inspiring to those teenagers who are walking the similar path in life that banks followed.
