Credit Card And Debt And Per Capita - The credit card and debt and per capita delinquencies and personal bankruptcy rates increased during the middle of the 1990s, despite the strength of the United States economy. At a time when the credit card and debt and per capita income were rising, household borrowing grew at an even faster and alarming pace.
During this time, the number of personal bankruptcy filings also increased 79 percent between 1994 and 1998, faster than the 1991 recession. In 1998 however, there were 1.4 million filings or more than 1 per 100 households. The bad news is that the increasing credit card and debt and per capita was starting to go back to the same trend.
These extremely high rates of credit card and debt and per capita have generated quite a bit of discussion. Many blame credit card default rates on lenders and banks, arguing that lenient standards have allowed consumers to borrow much more than they can repay, while others will blame borrowers for spending much more than they should.
Recent analysis of Federal Reserve data suggests that credit card and debt and per capita have spread to higher risk consumer groups over time. There’s also evidence that high levels of credit card debt have contributed to the increase in bankruptcy rates. Those that file for bankruptcy however, usually do this because they have gotten themselves so far into credit card debt that they don’t know any other way to clear their name.
Over the past thirty years, credit cards have become a common method of payment, replacing both cards and the installment plans that were once common in appliance stores, furniture stores, and other retail stores. When this first started happening, the credit card and debt and per capita went through the roof.
Although it isn’t easy to prove that credit card borrowing will lead to bankruptcy, it does however have an impact with credit card and debt and per capita. Millions of Americans face bankruptcy each and every year, with the majority being due to credit cards and spending well beyond their limit.
