State Employees Credit Union - The State Employees Credit Union was founded on June 4, 1937 with 17 members and $437 in assets. At this time it was being operated on a part-time basis out of the basement of the Agriculture Building in Raleigh, NC. By 1939, the state employees credit union had assets totalling $25,000.00 with a total membership of 1,049. The state employees credit union was paying a 4% percent dividend on shares at this time, and allowed a maximum loan amount of one hundred fifty dollars.
Today, the state employees credit union has assets of over 4 billion dollars and hundreds of thousands of members, with thousands more joining every year. From their auspicious beginning, the state employees credit union quickly grew to become one of the worlds largest and most successful credit unions in a very short time.
By offering many different services and programs to their members, the state employees credit union has helped hundreds of thousands of people in obtaining low cost loans and refinancing, establishing or re-establishing credit and other such financial services to those with bad, low or even no credit. The state employees credit union has also shown many people how to maintain their credit rating, through a wide variety of programs and seminars designed to empower the average person with knowledge pertaining to good credit.
