Secured Credit Cards - Nearly anyone can obtain secured credit cards even if their credit is bad or they have previously filed for chapter 7 (or chapter 13) bankruptcy. Secured credit cards require deposit into an account that the credit card has set up. Usually the bank will pay interest on this savings account. By requiring you to to keep money in your account, secured credit cards insure that you cannot go over your monthly limit. You will be able to use 50 to 100% of the money in the account as your credit limit. You will be billed at a higher interest rate then on a traditional non secured credit card.
Advantages to having secured credit cards is that if you find yourself getting into too much debt and unable to pay you can simply close the account and the money in the savings is used to payoff the debt. However, the stated interest will usually be much higher then on an unsecured credit card. You may be required to pay sign up fees and annual fees that also may be quite higher then with a traditional credit card.
Secured credit cards can be obtained from many different sources. Some sources would be online, simply go to google.com and type in secured credit cards and you will receive many different choices of ways to obtain a secured credit card. Many local banks also offer secured credit cards and you will be able to speak to a live person when obtaining the information you need to get a secured credit card.
Be careful when calling for your secured credit cards, some companies have 1-900 numbers to call for the information and these companies charge money on your phone bill for the call. It is very important when obtaining secured credit cards to find out all of the information you can about the company you will be dealing with. Be sure when shopping around for your secured credit cards to find out which company will pay the highest interest rate on your savings account. Be sure to pay your monthly bill in full each month this will help with building up your credit and avoiding finance charges and fees.
