Russia Icbm Force Future - Russia ICBM force future, some would wonder what we have to fear from Russia now that the Cold War is over, the fear is that Russian ICBM’s are starting to appear on the black market with far commonality. The fact that Russian nuclear material seems to disappear from storage facilities due to a lack of security, as well as unemployed Russian nuclear scientists offering their expertise to anyone willing to pay them is a scary reality the world faces today.
Why should this concern us? Lets say a Russian nuclear device was acquired for a terrorist group, now lets say their target is Great Britain’s Trafalgar square in London, if detonated, there would no longer be a London, just a blasted irradiated moonscape of which there would be little hope of survivors. Any country could become a target for a nuclear powered terrorist attack; this would force countries into submission by a small group of extremists that would end in their domination of the world or its destruction.
What can we do about it? At this time all that can be done to prevent such a nightmare scenario is being undertaken to try and account for all Russian nuclear material and former nuclear personnel. But, this takes money, of which Russia does not have due to the on again off again war with Chechnya. So, the task falls to the Nuclear Emergency Search Team or N.E.S.T. as they are known to pick up the slack. Right now the only a broad citizen movement can help to strengthen N.E.S.T. in its job by getting more funds to aid in its appointed task of tracking and recovering missing nuclear material.
Isn’t our government taking steps to prevent a nuclear attack by terrorists? Yes, but only within our own borders, not in places like Russia where nuclear material is literally laying around in a field miles from town, or person for that matter. We need to take a more active role in preventing terrorists from gaining nuclear material in foreign lands before they strike. Only you and other citizens like you can affect change.
