Tindersticks James Bond - Tindersticks James Bond, what does Tindersticks have in common with James Bond? There both famous and British, and one of them is a rocking band the U.K. is proud to call its own. Indeed Tindersticks has been able to avoid the pitfalls that befallen so many other British bands, mainly too much hype too soon.
The Tindersticks play a moody melodic music that sweeps through the listener and quietly takes hold of them. Simply through the strength of their records and live performances they are building a word of mouth following that has them touring Europe to sold out houses and has American record buyers haranguing their local record stores for import copies of their 21-song debut double album. An impressive display for band not from the U.S. to get that kind of attention from American record buyers is fantastic.
The band got its start in 1992 with the release of their debut single "patchwork b/w Milky Teeth", released on their own Tippy Toe label. Limited to 500 copies, it sold out within two weeks. The band quickly followed with another single, a limited edition which sold out (2000) within one week. A great showing for such a young band at the time and still their popularity continued to grow.
The band would inevitably go on to record their first album which was released on October 4, 1993 in the U.K. The album which is also currently available in the U.S. on Bar/None Records has been critically acclaimed in both America and Europe. With such a response in the U.K. and Then a similar response in the U.S. is almost reminiscent of another British band that gained popularity in the U.S., the Beatles.
Could Tindersticks duplicate the success of the Beatles? It looks like they could pull it off, though surpassing the Beatles is something of a Holy Grail for any band, one that is never achieved, still, Tindersticks could give the Beatles memory a run for it money. But, don’t take my word for it, go out and listen to Tindersticks yourself and see if they are worthy of your music collection.
