Payday Loans - You may have notices the proliferation of different payday loans available these days and you may be wondering if payday loans are as good as they seem. Payday loans are loans made against your paycheck. Payday loans are available to people with good, bad or no credit and usually the only thing required is proof of employment and a promissory note to pay back the loan. There are many good reasons why you might think about payday loans. However there are many factors that should be taken into account before you apply for one.
First, you should be aware that payday loans are usually offered at a much higher interest rate then a conventional long term loan. Since payday loans are for a very short term, usually one or two weeks, the rates can seem quite extraordinary. For instance, if you were to borrow $500 against your paycheck, you can expect to have to pay back as much as $700 in as little as a week. That would be a 20% interest rate. So, before you apply for any payday loans, you should be sure that you can actually afford to pay the interest off, on your next payday.
Many people find themselves in a situation with payday loans, where each payday they have to take out a new loan in order to have enough money to pay back the previous interest from the previous loan. For instance, let’s say you borrowed that $500 originally, and come payday, you find that after you pay back the $700 that doesn’t leave you with enough to pay the rent. So you need to take out another payday loan for another $500, which will give you enough to pay the rent, but then leave you with the same problem next payday. In this manner payday loans can become a catch-22 financial situation.
So, if you are thinking about checking into payday loans, pay very close attention to the interest rates, how much you will have to pay back, and whether or not you will have enough out of your paycheck to pay back the loan without having to take out another loan. Payday loans can be great in a pinch but should be used only sparingly and only when you can actually afford to pay them back out of your next paycheck, without putting yourself in further debt.
