Fair Credit Reporting Act - Congress has made the fair credit-reporting act, which requires accuracy and fairness of credit reporting. The banking system is dependent upon accuracy and fairness. Inaccurate credit reports directly impair the efficiency of the banking system, and unfair credit reporting methods the continued functioning of the banking system.
The fair credit reporting act has developed an elaborate mechanism for investigating and evaluating the credit worthiness, credit standing, credit capacity, character and general reputation of the consumers.
Consumer reporting agencies evaluate consumer credit and other information on consumers. It is very important that consumer-reporting agencies are fair, impartial and respect the consumer right to privacy.
The fair credit act has set up procedures that require the consumer reporting agencies use reasonable procedures for meeting the needs of commerce for consumer credit, personnel, insurance, and other information in a manner which is fair and equitable to the consumer, with regard to the confidentiality, accuracy, relevancy, and proper utilization of such information in accordance with the requirements of such act.
The fair credit act was agreed upon to help a consumer when obtaining credit, or when applying for any type of insurance. It is available to help the service provider determine if you are a good credit risk. A consumer has a legal right to a copy of the credit report that is being completed on them. They may request the report either by mail or by phone. You also have the right to know who is requesting your credit report and why. The fair credit reporting act works both ways, to protect the creditor as well as the person who has the debt.
By knowing about the fair debt reporting act you can keep an eye on your own credit, as well as as an eye on who might be looking into your credit. Your credit is very important and you should take the time to acquaint yourself with the fair credit reporting act and how it obtains to you and your financial future. Once you have done your homework and educated yourself on the fair credit reporting act, you will be in a better situation to protect yourself and your finances.
