| New Help Desk |
Help Desk If you have a question from a Computer Pals course or a nagging problem with your PC, try emailing the Club's new Help Desk to see if our resident Panel of experts can help you. The Help Desk can be accessed by looking for the Help Desk link towards the bottom of the contents pane on the left hand side of this website. Information about the Help Desk and all the instructions for submitting your question are contained there. Use the email address shown for the Help Desk or if you use Outlook or Outlook Express you can just click on the Help Desk email address and it will open a pre-addressed email for you. All you have to do is write your question, add your name at the bottom and click "Send". The Club cannot guarantee to solve all your computer problems but we will give it our best shot! |

| Windows XP Availability |
Windows XP OEM Availability PC World recently reported that Microsoft had announced it will phase out Windows XP as an installation option for brand-name computer makers faster than it has for other Operating Systems. According to Microsoft's posted timetable, the company will stop licensing Windows XP to OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and terminate retail sales of Windows XP on January 31, 2008. If you are currently running Windows 98SE/ME/2000 and had planned to upgrade to Windows XP before moving to Windows Vista, you will need to do this before January 2008. After January 2008 a new PC or Laptop will only come with Windows Vista and theoretically you will not be able to purchase a retail copy of Windows XP. 1/10/07 - Due to market demand, Microsoft has now extended the availability of Windows XP until mid 2008. 1/01/09 - Due to market demand Microsoft has again extended availability of Windows XP until mid 2009! 20/05/09 - Latest information on the availability of Windows 7 is that it could start appearing on new PCs from October 2009. 28/09/09 - Latest news is that Windows 7 will be available in shops from 22nd October 2009. Microsoft has only committed to continue support for Windows Vista until 2011 at this stage. We have yet to see if Microsoft will give all Vista users a free upgrade to Windows 7! |
