Where Has Citrus Played?

While Citrus has played at a large number of venues, some particularly notable Citrus performances have included:

Album Launches

Citrus' long-awaited debut album, Adam Ate the Mango, was launched at 3 concerts across Sydney in late March/early April 2003. The launches, held at Turramurra, Blacktown and Newtown, showcased the songs from the album along with a few of the band's newer songs and some covers.

Guest musicians included Greg Dixon on electric guitar, Derek Sadubin on timbales and additional percussion, Lindey Forster on violin, and Gail Oakey on cello. Support acts were Daniel Davidson and Me+Ty.

The Australian Gospel Music Festival

Held in Toowoomba Queensland over the Easter long weekend, AGMF is Australia's largest Christian music festival. 2003 featured 140 of the best Australian and International artists including Jive Express, Alabaster Box, Eli, David Meece, James Morrison, Antiskeptic, Rhubarb, Jami Smith, The Lads, Beanbag, Soulframe, Paperadio, Sons of Korah, Half Way Out, Compliments of Gus, Chris Mundy, Blind and, of course, two performances by Citrus.

The event also featured other attractions such as Eagle Boys Skydiving, fireworks, snake shows, a rodeo, Robinson's Family Circus and a movie tent.

Black Stump

Black Stump is NSW's biggest Christian music and arts festival, running over the October long weekend. In 2002, 2003 and 2004 Citrus performed at Black Stump in the One World Cafe, with a special performance at the Black Stump Musical Challenge 2004 where Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit was given the Citrus make-over.

Each year, the profits from the sale of food at the One World Cafe are given to TEAR Australia, a Christian organisation dedicated to supporting development projects for the world's poor.

National Gospel Happening

Held in Canberra in late November, Citrus first appeared at National Gospel Happening in 2003. While in the ACT, Citrus also performed at Woden Valley Bible Church.

Hyde Park

As part of Awakening 2004, organised by the interdenominational group Fusion in the leadup to Easter, Citrus was invited to share their music as lunch-time entertainment in Hyde Park.

Mark Peterson's CD Launch

Citrus was invited to perform at the CD Launch of Mark Peterson, the writer of several well known congregational songs including Highest Place.

Whitfest

With Melanie Cooke, Nathan Tasker and me+Ty. Over 400 people attended and $6000 was raised for a black African student to attend George Whitefield College in South Africa.

Africa Uncovered

An evening in support of African Enterprise. The night, organised by GT's Cafe and a team of volunteers featured Stephen Lungu as guest speaker, entertainment by Citrus, a period of congregational singing and an opportunity to give. Stephen shared what God has done in his life and a substantial number of people committed their lives to Christ.

Around 450 people attended the evening and over $8000 was raised for the work of African Enterprise and an African Enterprise mission team to Malawi.

Gracenotworks.com Unplugged

With John Dickson & Ben Shaw, Melanie Cooke, Nathan Tasker, Rob Smith, Colin Buchanan, Mark Peterson and Andrew Lubbock and held in St Andrew's Cathedral. Citrus was selected to perform on the night after being judged the best entry in the Play onstage at UNPLUGGED competition.

The Australian Christian Artists' Network (ACAN) NSW Musicians' Breakfast

Citrus was offered one of the much sought after showcase performances at the Australian Christian Artists' Network's NSW Musicians' Breakfast. This event brought together a wide variety of people involved in the Australian Christian music industry, including artists, print media, radio personnel, distributors, marketing and management people, production personnel and various others from 'behind-the-scenes'. Other showcases at the event included Blind, Speaking of Sarah, Melanie Cooke and Bent.

Hillsong Conference

Citrus was invited to perform at an outdoor stage near the entrance of the Sydney Superdome for the 2003 Hillsong Conference. Other artists performing on the stage included Jive Express, Blind, Nathan Tasker, Deb Fung and Me+Ty.

Interview on Rhema FM, Newcastle

In June 2005, Tim was interviewed on the Rhema FM Newcastle program, 180 Degrees. Tim spoke about the history of the band and gave some insight into the Citrus songwriting process.

Appearance on 2NBC FM

Citrus appeared on the Sydney Christian radio program Misfits in the Dryer in March 2003 to promote their new album. Citrus was interviewed live, shared some songs from the album, and recorded an interview for a further two programs on the station.

Appearance on 2RRR FM

Citrus appeared on the Sydney Christian radio program Down the Line. Citrus was interviewed and performed four songs live.

Cornerstone Coffee Lounge

Situated on King Street in the heart of Newtown, Citrus performed a 40 minute set in 2002 which followed performances by Daniel Davidson and Tommy Tucker of the Gospel Experience. In April 2003 Citrus held one of their three CD launches at Cornerstone Coffee Lounge where they played a 75 minute set following a 35 minute set by Daniel Davidson. In 2004, Citrus was again invited to play at Cornerstone and was honoured to share the stage with Mike McCarthy and Junksion.

The Attic

The Attic, one of Sydney's regular Christian venues, invited Citrus to play a 45 minute set in 2002. Other artists included Dream Tree and the Cat Burglars. In the words of the Attic's Reuben Rose "...the feedback was excellent. Citrus can and will go far!"

Citrus was invited back to the Attic to headline in June 2003.

The Undaground

An inviting venue in Padstow, Citrus performed at both the first and first anniversary evenings at The Undaground. Other artists at the first anniversary included Mike McCarthy and The Tullys.

SNOAM

Situated at Jacks Island Cafe in Hornsby, SNOAM is designed as a social hub to encourage fellowship amongst those who want to go out after church on Sunday night. Citrus received a barrage of positive comments from the 100 people present for their SNOAM debut in 2002, and as a result were welcomed back with an invitation to perform in August 2003.

GT's Cafe

In July 2003, Citrus played at the official launch of GT's Cafe! Other artists for the evening were Deb Fung and Dave Parker.

Lighthouse Cafe

In July 2004, Citrus played at the Lighthouse Cafe, an intimate venue in Panania with a great menu and friendly people.

Haven Cafe

A cafe that has yet to find a permenant home, the Haven Cafe boasts some great food, and a welcoming atmosphere that welcomes the arts.

Parkside Church

In late 2004, Citrus performed at the evening service of this vibrant and growing church in Edensor Park.

Tour of the Southern Highlands

In late 2002, Citrus performed at the Kangaroo Valley Church of Good Shepherd, Scotts College - Glengarry Campus, and Berry Anglican Church. They gave five performances to a wide variety of age groups. The band were encouraged to see that their music appealed to the Year 9 boys of Glengarry, the family groups at the outdoor concerts, church services and women's breakfast in Kangaroo Valley and Berry, and the older members of the audience, with more than one white haired fan nodding their head in time with the music.
