What's the Juice with Citrus?

Citrus is an acoustic three-piece band based in Sydney, Australia. The band has a passion to encourage Christians to continue growing in their faith and relationship with God. This aim is followed closely by a desire to share the gospel of Christ in an honest and genuine manner.

Who is Citrus?

Citrus has three core members: The band is also regularly joined by:

While Alison fills the role of lead vocalist, all three members take an active role in songwriting and arrangement. As a result the songs are varied, coloured by an eclectic mix of rock, pop, folk, jazz and classical. In a genre at risk of cliché, the music of Citrus is refreshingly different.

What does Citrus sound like?

While it is difficult to summarise a band's sound using only words, Citrus describe their music as "Alternative folk with a fresh funky edge"... A sound that would appeal to fans of Caedmon's Call, Jennifer Knapp, and Nathan Tasker in the Christian scene, and Coldplay, Missy Higgins, Dido, The Indigo Girls, Counting Crows, Van Morrison and The Frames in the secular scene.

Citrus strives to create music that is earthy, spacious, and fulfilling with lyrics that capture the essence of that which you have often thought about, but have rarely managed to put into words.

Perhaps the easiest way to get an idea of Citrus' sound is to visit the Music page or this site and download a snippet of one of their songs.

Citrus focuses most of their performances around Sydney and it's surrounding regions with occasional performances interstate. Notable performances have included The Australian Gospel Music Festival (QLD), Black Stump (NSW), The National Gospel Happening (ACT), and numerous radio interviews. Citrus is always eager to consider any opportunities to share their music at churches, cafes, community events, festivals, youth groups and any other venues that may suit their sound.

Citrus normally charges a small fee to help cover their costs, however this is negotiable should fianances be a problem.

Does Citrus Have any Recordings?

In 2003 Citrus emerged from the studio with their debut album, Adam Ate the Mango. The 11-track album was launched at 3 concerts across Sydney, and was met with an enthusiastic response, with many fellow musicians being particularly forward in their praise.

Adam Ate the Mango is esteemed for it's varied yet earthy production, and it's use of unique and conventional instruments to present an ageless message of hope in a less than perfect world.

The album was recorded and mixed at Aphek Studio by Greg Dixon, mastered by Don Bartley at Studios 301, and produced by Tim Bower and Greg Dixon.

How Did the Band Form?

Tim has played with numerous bands, including Third Wheel, Inparto, and an early incarnation of Revive. When Third Wheel went their separate ways, Tim saw the opportunity to join with Susie and Alison who developed their harmony-laden vocal style growing up together as sisters.

Citrus was formed in early 2001.
