The Web and networked classrooms are unique environments for creating and supporting learning activities. Using the Web, the real world of the target language can now be brought into the classroom. This presentation will look at how these environments can be utilized in terms of exposing language learners to authentic language experiences and giving them control over their learning. It will demonstrate socio-collaborative online projects as implemented within the context of AMES Victoria to show that they can be used for meaningful language learning, especially in terms of socialization, authenticity, creativity, authorship/ownership and cross-cultural awareness.
