New South Wales South Coast August 2009This holiday was very short planned. Fritz didn't have too much work at the time and so we just decided to take a 4 week break and go up the NSW South Coast with the caravan and boat. Our first stop was for 5 days at Wonboyn Lake, which is a small village just kms from the Victorian border. Our next stop for a week was further up the coast at Wallaga Lake near Bermagui. Next 5 days we stayed in Nelligen on the Clyde River on the hinterland of Batemans Bay. Neither Wonboyn Lake nor Nelligen had any Telstra mobile coverage, which was no surprise at Wonboyn Lake as it is in the middle of nowhere but we didn't expect this at Nelligen, which is quite close to Batemans Bay. Originally we had planned 7 days in Nelligen and go to Tathra from there but we changed our mind and went instead for a week to Tuross Lake and then back to Lake Tyers where we spent a couple days. The NSW South Coast is very beautiful and it was one of our best holidays ever. Worth visiting are the townships of Central Tilba and Mogo both with lots of little craft shops and cafes. It was an unusual warm and dry August with just a couple of windy days. The wind was quite strong on those days and we had to tie down the boat and roll the awning up a few times. During the night is was very cold but nothing which a warm doona and a woolen blanket couldn't fix, while the days were mostly sunny and warm. Fritz forgot to take the electricity cable for the TV, so instead of watching TV, we played Romme each night to 1500 and Fritz won 13 and myself 11 nights. |
