Lake Tyers

In Lake Tyers we have a small holiday shack where we keep the boat and caravan and where the idea was born to do some touring. We come here at least once a month for a long weekend to do some rowing, walking and bike riding.

We did a tour with friends Easter 2008 which ended to be a little adventure: Picnic trip Easter 2008
and did day trips and an overnight trip to Nowa Nowa

Lake Tyers arial photo

With a beautiful lake and beaches, Lake Tyers is an estuary lake ca 10 km North of Lakes Entrance. Lake Tyers Beach is a quiet and relaxed village and is a good home base to explore the lake. In years with normal rain the Estuary breaks open to the sea every 1-2 years.
The lake is often perfectly calm for rowing in early morning but can get rough really quickly with the sea breezes coming in later.

We usually start our trips from the Lake Tyers Boat Ramp. There is plenty of car park and shallow sandy areas to launch the boat.

We found this little lake on our way to Nowa Nowa opposite Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust area.

Lake Tyers Trip to Burnt Bridge December 2007

One of our favourite day trips on the lake takes us to Burnt Bridge. Arround the Mill Point Area we can sometimes watch a pair of sea eagles fishing. We always sea plenty of birds including pelicans, swans, comorans and lots of other birds we don't know by name.

Our son Patrick is steering the boat and has taken this photo. The flies were plentiful and a real nuisance and the fish jumping.

Lake Tyers Trip Burnt Bridge has been removed October 2008

This photo was taken of Burnt Bridge crossing. The Bridge has been removed, as it was unsafe and it is now possible to row all the way to Cherry Tree Picnic area, though closer to it there are plenty of trees in the lake and it gets very difficult to navigate to the picnic area for the last 200m.

No Burnt Bridge exists any more, October 2008
Worth a visit is the only pub in town: Waterwheel Tavern where my favourite is the Beef and Reef a steak topped with seafood in a white creamy sauce. Very yummy. There is a small shop near the tavern, which sells food, grog and fishing bait. Lake Tyers Beach offers a range of accomodation ranging from Caravan Parks to well equiped holiday flats and homes. Fishermans Landing is the home of the electric driven timber vessel Rubeena offering eco cruises Lazy Days Cruises.
Fishing charters and Canoe/Kayak hire is provided by Lake Tyers Charter . I went on the fishing charter once with my son and we had a very good time on the water and actually caught some nice fish. Opposite Lake Tyers Beach accross the water is the Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust. ABC Missions&Reserves Lake Tyers.
