MSR (Solar Returns)

Astrology NSW

Aquarius: 20 January to 19 February

Element: Air Sign (Intellect) - third Decan of the Air Triplicity

Quality: Fixed (Stable, Strong and Enduring)

Polarity: Positive, Masculine, Yang (meaning assertive or outgoing)

Symbology: Aquarius is the Water Carrier, the water being the water of Truth and Consciousness. Like Gemini and Virgo, Aquarius contains human symbolism (the person holding the urn from which the water flows), and like Libra, it is the inanimate symbol (the water) which, is important. Seasonally, the end of winter is approaching. With the movement towards spring, man's hopes, wishes and plans for a renewed and better yield of crops is uppermost. Aquarius works from the understanding that all humankind is of the one family, and has to do with the power of the intuitive aspect of mind - inspirational vision. The function of Aquarius in the chart is to use and change existing conditions to improve life, to see that life goes forward and doesn't stagnate, and to broadcast the message of oneness of humankind.

Mythology: The legend behind the Water Bearer is the Greek version of the "Great Flood". Zeus, deciding mankind was degenerating, sent a flood to wash the earth clean. Deucalion and his wife Pyrrha were warned and built a chest in which they rode out the flood until finally they came to rest on Mt Parnassus, the highest peak in Greece. They then went to the Delphic Oracle to ask how they could repopulate the human race, and were told to throw stones back over their shoulders as they followed the receding floodwaters down the mountainside. Those which Pyrrha tossed became women and Deucalion's rocks became men. When Deucalion died he was placed in the sky as the Water Bearer to commemorate the Deluge.

Glyph: The Aquarian glyph represents waves of water, but in modem times it has also come to represent electrical waves or any waves of force, such as sound waves. Esoterically, the two lines are the serpents of wisdom - the one above is the intuitional mind which reflects great concepts onto the rational mind below. The house ruled by Aquarius in the chart shows where you will act with the most originality and with the least regard for tradition and convention. It shows where you will use your intuitive abilities and listen more to yourself than to others. It will show where you are the most humanitarian and where you strive to bring reform.

Ruling Planet: Uranus Colour: Electric blue Gemstone: Amethyst

Body Rulership: Aquarius rules the calves, the ankles, the circulation of the blood, the pituitary gland and the synapses of the nerves.

Keyword: Originality Keyphrase: I Know

Other keywords to describe Aquarius: Positive: Original, cosmopolitan, intelligent, independent, loyal, humane, kind, outspoken, honest, impartial, fresh, ingenious, resourceful, reformist, individualistic. Negative: Eccentric, impersonal, revolutionary, irrational, erratic, stubborn, tactless, disruptive, bizarre, restless, unreliable, solitary, unconventional, argumentative, needs freedom at all costs, can be impractical.

Aquarius is one of the kindest sign of the zodiac because he genuinely cares for the community of man - his concept of brotherhood and sisterhood is universal. Aquarius strives to advance the dignity of humanity. He loves to show others a better way to do things, but at times he can be dogmatic, arrogant and unreasonable. He is always dissatisfied with the status quo and is constantly seeking new ideas and new ways of doing things. He doesn't listen to any authority figure and is generally rebellious and wilful. He is aware of the power of thought and speech and is often highly intuitive. He needs periodic isolation to regroup his energies and also needs to periodically ground himself physically (by gardening, lying on the grass, etc.) as he can very easily lose himself in the realm of ideas, many of which may be impractical Utopian dreams.

Aquarius hates to be predictable and will do something to shock if he thinks he is becoming too predictable (and therefore boring). He is terrified of losing his freedom and his rational point of view if he gets too involved with others, so he maintains detachment. He is highly inventive and individual but also enjoys working with like minded others for worthy causes. Aquarius is often ridiculed for his so-called "crazy ideas", which usually end up becoming reality 30 to 50 years later!

Physically, Aquarius is often tall and slender, with slim hips and somewhat pointed or elfin features. Alternatively, his face may be square with classic features and high cheekbones, and often a cleft chin or a dimple in the chin. He may dress unconventionally or be radical with his hairstyle, and there is often something unusual about him. His eyes are usually light in colour, perceptive but impersonal. Aquarius has an affinity with the 11th house as both are connected with the future and concern for humanity. Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, and co-ruled by Saturn, and has an affinity with the sextile aspect.

Allegory: "To you Aquarius, I give the concept of future that man might see other possibilities. You will have the pain of loneliness, for I do not allow you to personalise My Love. But for turning man's eyes to new possibilities, I give you the Gift of Freedom, that in your liberty, you may continue to serve mankind whenever he needs you. " And Aquarius stepped back into place.
