Quick Upgrade
New Installation
In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation)
Note: If the XP installed on your hard
disk has been updated to Service Pack 2 (or higher) and your
installation CD is Service Pack 1 or pre-SP1, you will need to
either create a bootable Slipstream
installation CD or create an installation folder on
your hard disk that is integrated with SP2 (or higher) before
performing an in-place upgrade. Use the
installation folder method if you do not have a CD burner or
have difficulty with setting the CD burn options.
Parallel Installation
This article describes
how to install Windows XP to a new folder (also known as a parallel
installation. It also provides additional information on performing an
upgrade and a new installation. Parrallel installations are useful for
troubleshooting if you do not have another partition on which to install
another copy of Windows XP.
