Skinner Family

  1. Robert Skinner of Morpeth NSW married Mary Doherty, daughter of Philip and Mary Doherty nee O'Dougharty, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, East Maitland NSW on the 7th January 1843; Rev. Edmund Mahony officiated and witnessed by John and Mary Gallen nee Moy. Robert arrived in Sydney aboard the "Charles Kerr" on the 9th October 1837 and died 13th April 1847 at the age of 39 years. Mary born 4th May 1821 in Ramelton, Co. Donegal, Ireland, arrived in Sydney, with her parents, aboard the "Herald" on the 15th July 1841.

        i)      Mary Skinner, born 8th April 1844 at Williams River NSW.
        ii)     William Skinner, born 5th March 1846 at Mount Rivers.

    Mary Skinner nee Doherty married (2) Owen Hughes of Williams River NSW in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, East Maitland NSW on the 18th February 1849; Rev. Patrick Nagennis officiated and witnessed by John and Margaret Connolly of Wallalong. Owen arrived aboard the "Hercules II (2)" on the 31st October 1830 from Dublin Ireland and died 17th October 1855.

        iii)    Thomas Hughes, born 4th December 1849 at Williams River NSW.
        iv)    Ann Hughes, born 12th April 1851 at Williams River NSW.
        v)     Owen Hughes, born 23rd December 1852 at Williams River NSW and died in 1892,
                aged 39 years, in Qld.
        vi)    Ann Agnes Hughes, born 9th October 1854 at Brandon NSW.

    Mary Hughes nee Doherty married (3) Joseph Allpress in St. Bridget's Church, Raymond Terrace NSW on the 24th April 1866; Rev. P. J. Quinlivan  officiated and witnessed by Edward Gard and Catherine Logue.
    Mary died 23rd March 1877 in Glenlivett. Joseph died 1st April 1869. There were no children of this marriage.

  3. William Skinner, son of Robert and Mary Skinner nee Doherty, born 5th March 1846 at Mount Rivers NSW. William married Ellen Kelly, daughter of Myles Kelly and Winifred Lynch and cousin to John Kelly. The family lived at Aberglasslyn, Maitland NSW.

  4. Thomas Hughes, son of Owen and Mary Hughes nee Skinner nee Doherty, born 4th December 1849 at Williams River NSW. Thomas married Mary Winifred Carmody, daughter of John and Bridget Carmody nee Considine, on the 16th November1875 at Raymond Terrace. Father Nealon officiated and Daniel and Bridget Carmody witnessed the marriage. At the time of his marriage Thomas was a butcher but later was a farmer at Seaham for many years before moving to Melville in the Maitland District. Some years later he purchased land in the Darling Downs district of Queensland but became ill and in November 1907, he died leaving Mary with a number of young Children.

  5. Ann Hughes, son of Owen and Mary Hughes nee Skinner nee Doherty, born 12th April 1851 at Williams River NSW and died 30th November 1851.
     
  6. Owen Hughes, son of Owen and Mary Hughes nee Skinner nee Doherty, born 23rd December 1852 at Williams River NSW and died in 1892, aged 39 years, in Qld. The death was the result of an accident with a horse. He was unmarried.
     
  7. Ann Agnes Hughes, son of Owen and Mary Hughes nee Skinner nee Doherty, born 9th October 1854 at Brandon, Seaham NSW. Ann married Patrick Joseph Carmody, son of John Carmody and Bridget Considine of Nelsons Plains, on 18th May 1875, at St. Bridget's Church Raymond Terrace. The witnesses were Ann's brother, Thomas Hughes of Glenlivett and Bridget Carmody, Patrick's Sister. Father Thomas Nealon Officiated. Ann had been living at Glenlivett with her mother and brother prior to her marriage. Ann and Patrick lived at Nelsons Plains during the first years of their marriage but by 1885 they were living in Raymond Terrace where Patrick built their home in Kangaroo Street. The first child of the marriage died at birth.

  8. Bridget Kelly, daughter of John and Mary Kelly nee Skinner, born 21st October 1869 in Maitland NSW Australia. Bridget entered the Dominican Order at Maitland and was professed in 1891 as Sister Osannah. She worked in various Places and died in Sydney on 14th October 1939.
