Maitland Bar, located on the Meroo River, is known to be the first location where gold was found in Australia. One of the biggest nuggets found was called the Brennan Nugget and was found within the Meroo River area. There was a Central School at Maitland Bar.
Miss Linda Campbell was a teacher as well as Edwin James Greaves, husband of Ruby Mabel Brennan, who started teaching there on the 28th May 1903. The school operated there from 1899 -1916.
