Ethics In Electronic Research - In the 21st century, the Internet is being used more and more often for research purposes. In fact, in many segments of society, the Internet has become the primary source for research.
In this regard, it has become paramount for a set of standards governing ethics in electronic research be developed. Thus far, there has not been a cohesive effort to establish a set standard for ethics in electronic research.
One of the major concerns involving ethics in electronic research centers on the wholesale theft of intellectual property.
Most people are very familiar with the problems associated with the downloading of otherwise copyrighted material. The Internet Web business known as Napster became legendary.
But, out of the limelight, another area where the theft of intellectual property has run rampant is in the area of electronic research generally.
Many people conducting electronic research will lift wholesale passages and writings created by others that is duly protected by copyright laws and treaties. As a consequence, a system of standardized ethics in electronic research must be formulated.
Presently, any standards pertaining to ethics in electronic research have been piecemeal and largely ineffective.
In recent years, a number of writers and researchers have worked to develop a standardized system of ethics in electronic research. By creating a standardized system of ethics in electronic research, it is believed that intellectual property will be better protected and properly utilized.
Academic institutions around the world have been leading the way in developing standardized ethics in electronic research. Of course one of the reasons these institutions have led the way towards a standardized plan of ethics in electronic research is due to the fact that a tremendous amount of electronic research is undertaken by professors and students at various institutions of higher education.
