Sweepstakes For Money - Through this article it is not our intent to pan every sweepstakes for money offer that comes down the pike. Certainly, there are legitimate and bona fide sweepstakes for money deals that are put before the consumer on a regular basis. Unfortunately, however, there are countless numbers of illegitimate and illicit sweepstakes for money offers.
One of the primary groups of people that are preyed upon by the operators of sweepstakes for money scams are the elderly. While statistics vary, it is very safe to say that elderly men and women lose millions of dollars annually through sweepstakes for money scams.
The typical sweepstakes for money scam that uses an elderly person as a target works something like this:
A nice and pleasant sounding person telephones an elderly person on the phone. In the alternative, the elderly target receives a notification in the mail announcing that he or she has won a sweepstakes for money prize. (Many scammers now avoid using the mail, however. In the United States - as in many other countries - it is a serious crime to use the mails to defraud another person. Mail fraud can carry large penalties.)
More often than not, the caller - or writer - advises the elderly person that in order to collect the sweepstakes for money prize, the elderly person needs to either provide the sweepstakes for money outfit some money up front or provide the sweepstakes for money operation with bank account information so that "the sweepstakes for money prize can be deposited into the person’s account."
In the end, the sweepstakes for money operators make off with the person’s money either by walking with the cash or draining the unsuspecting person’s account.
In the end, no person should ever provide money or bank account information to a stranger, no matter what the promise is at the end of the line.
