| Cut Footage | The following violent moments are shown on the local DVD (Umbrella) as deleted scenes.
The reviewer on Michael DVD (Greg Morfoot) says "Four extended Razorback attack scenes. The scenes are presented uncut as they were upon initial release. It is also obvious that they are from the VHS release of the film in 1984". Note that the DVD
was not reclassified for its DVD release.
(a) Station Wagon death scene. Judy Morris is ripped apart inside her vehicle. (b) Waterhole Death Scene. Bill Kerr has his entire face bitten off while still screaming. (c) David Argue death Scene. The scene shows Argue being eaten while he vomits blood from his mouth. (d) Pet Pack attack scene. Gregory Harrison pierces the Monstrous Hog's jugular and is drowned in arterial spray. |

| Robocop (1987) | |
| Director | Paul Verhoeven |
| Cut Formats | VHS, Film |
| Classifications | R (30/4/2007 - DVD, 8/2/2002 - DVD, 12/2/1988 - 101 mins film), M (circa 1987) |
| Comments | Robocop has suffered the indignity of two rounds of
censorshit. Firstly, the Australian M-rated version released theatrically by the local distributor
was missing what one can only guess was a large amount of carnage. According to M.C. Thomason (see below),
it was reportedly a version edited for US network TV broadcast. I have never seen this version.
The Australian R 18+ version later released on VHS (rental and sell-through) matched the US R-rated version,
but this was also a compromised version.
"About that M rated version: it was actually the version prepared by Orion Pictures for the film's eventual network television screenings in the US! Not only was the violence modified, some sequences were completely different takes, and the language had been redubbed into obscurity! A friend who used to work for Village Roadshow (the film's then distributor) confirmed all of this for me; the incident all stemmed from Roadshow contesting the R rating they had been awarded on the film. They simply opted for the modified television version as a 2nd option to literally 'dump' the film theatrically! Much the same way they did when the OFLC awarded Hellraiser with an R, Roadshow cut the film wholesale (by around 6 mins) to get it out in an M-rated variant and dumped it on the drive-in circuit." [M. C. Thomason] On the uncut local DVD from 2002, the uncensored scenes are added via seamless branching, but rather awkwardly. It's unknown whether the 2007 two-disc release suffers this problem. The 2002 DVD also contains the cut theatrical version. The Criterion DVD was transferred from an uncut print and plays without disruption. |
| Cut Footage | The Aussie R 18+ and US R versions are missing shots that include
more bloody bullet hits in the early ED-209 demo scene, Peter Weller being shot in the head,
and a few frames of the bad guy's blood-spurting neck wound in the climax.
The Aussie M rated version must have had the bloodiest highlights of the US R version trimmed down further to make it network TV friendly, rendering it almost bloodless and most probably devoid of swear words, too. |
| Reason | The cut M-rated version was released by the film's local distributor in that form to give better box office takings than the restricted R 18+ version. Furthermore, that R 18+ version was actually the US R-rated version, which itself was cut prior to its initial US release to appease the MPAA. |

| The Rock (1995) | |
| Director | Michael Bay |
| Cut Formats | VHS, Film, DVD |
| Classifications | R (31/5/1996 - 132 mins film, 2/12/1996 - 131 mins film, 13/9/1995 DVD, 24/10/2001 DVD), MA (19/6/1996 - 135 mins, 12/11/1996 - 131 mins film) |
| Comments | "Actually, the local cuts were performed to enhance the film's ability to make money at the box office, as it was awarded an R by the OFLC, whereupon Touchstone appealed the decision arguing that an MA was a more appropriate classification. Anyhow, after a brief turn with the Board of Review, Touchstone lost their argument and the film was toned down to be classified MA. Then came DVD; the local release was mastered from the censored R2 version, that contained different edits to the Australian cinema release. Eventually, the SE was plopped under the OFLC's nose, who had no hesitations in confirming their 1997 decision of an R. The same print was recently passed uncut with a 15 classification in the UK." [M. C. Thomason] |
| Cut Footage | (a) At 18:52 side B of the flipper DVD,
Sean Connery kills a marine with a knife and says, "You must never hesitate."
An awkward jump-cut replaces the action.
(b) At 19:30 side B of the flipper DVD - lying on the flooring, Connery shoots a marine's feet. Most of the bloody footage is missing. (c) At 48:44 side B of the flipper DVD, Ed Harris and other marines received several bloody bullet hits to the abdomen and upper body. The shots are shortened. |
| Reason | A cut UK master was used for the original DVD release, and Touchstone cut the film slightly locally to get an MA rating theatrically and on VHS. Therefore two cut versions have been released locally. |
| Uncut Releases | Local special edition DVD, US DVD and laserdisc (Criterion). |
