The SBS broadcast version was uncut.    "SBS initially received (and rejected) the modified Hong Kong television print which ran 75:54 on PAL tape and introduced an entire undercover cop sub-plot that didn't exist in the original so as to make up for all the sex and violence that was cut. The Siren video print ran 86:15 and the Director's Cut print we finally received ran 92:25. The additional scenes in the Director's Cut were:    (a) 4 mins 22 secs - dialogue scene while Kelly Yiu massages Chingmy Yau's body as they are lying on a couch;    (b) 32 secs - dialogue scene between Simon Yam and Chingmy Yau in the car during which Timan throws up while brandishing a gun;    (c) 23 secs - scene of Chingmy Yau viewing a videotape of Kelly Yiu after the latter's death;    (d) 1 min 9 secs - dialogue scene between Simon Yam and his partner in a room some time after Yam had been knocked unconscious by Yiu." Reason	"The cinema release versions runs 88 mins and is uncut. Subsequently, Media Asia allowed director Fok the luxury of a director's cut (unheard of in the Hong Kong film industry); this version was released on DVD in Hong Kong during 2000 and runs 97 mins. Simply two different versions, that's all. Not a cut and uncut version as such; just a cinema print, and an extended version (the major difference being a dialogue sequence between Chingmy Yau and Kelly Yiu that adds around 4 mins to the running time)." Cut Footage	The following cuts were determined by Gobin and posted on Digital Retribution.     "Well chaps, last night I compared my Aussie release of the superb Cirio Santiago film Naked Vengeance with the U.S uncut release on the 'Lightning' label. On Refused Classification this film is listed as it may have 20 mins of footage missing, I found it to actually be about 4 mins 2 secs (not exact) but still is a substantial amount of footage.     I'm always thrilled beyond belief to first see missing/cut footage from films, the longer version is a million times better than the cut print and even that was a good watch. The cuts are as follows ,not highly detailed and exact but you get the idea.    (a) VHS rental with 7 mins = 1 min 22 secs!! missing from the raping of Carla at her parent's home.    (b) 40 mins = 2 secs of Carla's dad on the floor after being shot.    (c) 53 mins = 2 secs of the barman's burning.    (d) 61 mins = 52 secs of footage after the guy in the water has his dick cut off, more blood shown everywhere in the water then gets an anchor thrown into him and the boat started dragging him along the water.    (e) 76 mins = 8 secs, guy in the ice factory getting slashed/hit by Carla now shows him being hit 6 times instead of 3.    (f) 87 mins = 4 secs butcher getting beaten up by Carla.    (g) 87 mins 57 secs = 3 second of eye gouging.    (h) 87 mins 9 secs = 35 secs of the meat cleaver attack.    (i) 88 mins 53 secs = 54 secs of end fight between Carla and the butcher including a shotgun head explosion."    Thanks to Goblin for the information.

Uncut Releases	A bootleg workprint is also available on the Internet: "This is the unrated workprint of Tom Savini's retelling of Romero's classic zombie film. Contains an alternate soundtrack and all the violence that was cut in order for the film to receive an R rating. Pan & scan in XVCD format, good picture quality."
Comments	The US DVD special edition contains some but not all of the deleted gore footage in the supplementary section. Apparently there is a US unrated VHS tape that has the extra gore, but I have not been able to confirm this yet. The 1998 VHS release is listed with a US R rating on Amazon.    A UK PAL widescreen laserdisc (Tartan) was released with an 18 rating, a catalogue number of EE1016, and listed running time of 88 mins PAL. More than likely it matches the Australian R-rated VHS rental version.

Comments	This film was released twice on Australian VHS. Nightmare, featuring the bloody girl sitting in the chair on the cover, is uncut by all accounts. The other version called Schizo is cut.    "Schizo is simply Palace's attempt to get a version of Scavolino's film out to the Australian public on their Explosive label, most famous for its extreme output in the mid-to-late eighties. It runs 89 min at PAL speed, indicating a length of 92 min at standard film speed. This version is fairly unique to Australia, and is comparative with what the film should look like after the necessary OFLC requested cuts have been made. There is virtually none of the grisly FX footage left in this version, but it is the only legal version available in this territory at this point in time." [M. C. Thomason]

Comments	After seeing screen shot comparisons between the theatrical and the "unrated extended uncensored director's cut" DVD (Sony) release I own, I agree with Movie-Censorship's determination that the extended version is an uncensored assembly. However, if the film received a US R rating from the MPAA, it's difficult to imagine that mild female nudity would not have been included. The MPAA consumer advice reads, "Rated R for strong crude sexual content and humor, language and drug content." It does not mention nudity. The MPAA website also mentions it was "re-rated", whatever that means. I suspect the filmmakers or studio cut 10 minutes out to secure a PG-13 rating, but failed. I'll do more research to confirm. Note that the US DVD is in fact labeled "uncensored".    The local cinema print ran to 89 mins rounded or 88:52 to be exact, according to the BBFC's tape measure. At first, Australia received the theatrical version on DVD (Columbia Tri-Star) with a running time of 85:22 PAL. In 2005 the "extended cut" was classified by the OFLC for DVD with a likely running time of 95:39 PAL (according to the BBFC listing), or 10 minutes and 17 seconds of footage longer, but I'm not sure this edition ever hit the shelves locally. EzyDVD has no listing for it.
Cut Footage	There are too many shots to list given an extra 10 minutes were restored. Basically, in terms of possible censorship, the extended contains more female nudity (mainly topless) and crass humour. For screen captures, visit Movie-Censorship.
