Land of the Dead (2005)

Cut Footage	There was a lot of gore removed according to comments made by the filmmakers. This missing footage was promised for a future DVD release. The BBFC lists the film print running time as 92:58 at 24 frames per second. They gave it a '15' rating. Out of interest, the OFLC consumer advice warns against "Strong horror violence, Blood and gore".

Last House on Dead End Street (1980)

Uncut Releases	Fully restored two-disc US DVD special edition, Venezuelan VHS.
Comments	The enigmatic yet repellant Last House on Dead End Street gained notoriety and a minor cult following on the US grindhouse circuit and European VHS bootleg market.

Comments Along with Salo and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Last House on the Left is one of the most renouned banned-from-Australia titles.

Cut Footage	Some violent shots of soldiers being hacked to death by tomahawks are shown. When Magua slits Uncas’ throat, a new sound was digitally added.
Reason	Three different versions have been released, some more violent than others.
Uncut Releases	Bootleg VHS from the VHS rental tape in the Netherlands. The director's cut US DVD is apparently less violent than the US R-rated version.
Comments	"With the advent of Michael Mann's director's cut in the US (which is actually less violent that the R-rated original), there are effectively three different versions of this film. The original theatrical print screened in Australia contained different footage to the eventual video release, and the director's expanded version on disc in the US is a different edit again. There was never any question of the film being classified anything higher than an M for local release. The original US theatrical release carried a PG-13 classification, and I have a US theatrical one-sheet poster in my possession to back this up." [M. C. Thomason]

Cut Footage	Following the release of the ultimate edition DVD in 2006, the MPAA trims were listed below were identified as being restored for the first time on home video. Reason	Cut by the studio MGM to appease the US censors for a PG-13 rating. It was also originally cut for the UK release.
Uncut Releases	The local ultimate edition DVD (Sony/MGM) contains the first uncut release of the film in Australia in any format at 127:41 PAL time. UK and US UE DVD (MGM/Sony).

Cut Footage	Some static gore is missing from scenes cut to shorten the film, and one or two bloodier moments throughout such when Butterfield's face spurts blood after being struck, plus some footage in the sex scene.
Reason	Cut to obtain a US R rating and to reduce the running time.
Uncut Releases	The US VHS, laserdisc and DVD (all MGM), UK DVD (MGM) all contain the unrated director’s cut version that runs for an extra 12 minutes.

 

Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (200)

Cut Footage	(a) At 154:53, the theatrical version on DVD is missing the shot where the lead Uruk-Kai Lurtz licks the bloody dagger blade after pulling it from his leg. On the 4-disc extended edition DVD, commentry track #1, Peter Jackson says: "Scenes like the throat cutting and the arm being lopped off were obviously trimmed back really for ratings reasons." Someone else then says, "no spurting allowed". In both versions, the arm lopping of the Lurtz is bloodless and the frame counts match exactly. I am not sure which throat cutting Jackson refers to, but the final battle does feature one Uruk-Kai's throat being sliced with a sword bloodlessly, shot from behind. One may assume that the original edits of these scenes were more graphic than they are in both versions of Lord of the Rings, but this has not been confirmed. Jackon may have also cut them before he submitted the film to the US MPAA.    The New Zealand theatrical version DVD release is also missing the dagger licking shot.
