What I do
My web sites follow international standards of web design as recommended and published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and promoted by the Web Standards Group (WSG).
What I charge:
I encourage my clients to be pro-active by charging a flat hourly rate of $60 for all work done.
This means that the more preparation my clients do, the less work they require of me, therefore the overall price of their web site is reduced.
I also support a client's decision to maintain control over their own content and save them paying me to do their basic site maintenance.
I recommend Adobe Contribute as the tool in these cases.
What I do provide:
- HTML and XHTML Web sites
- Style Sheets and basic JavaScript
- Scanning and manipulation of Photos/Graphics
- Search Engine Submission and optimisation
- Basic IT Support
What I generally do not provide:
- Flash and Java applets
- Graphics-intensive sites
- Audio and Video
- ASP scripting
- Web sites that use Frames
That being said, if you have special requirements, please let me know and I'll do my best to help.
Browser Support
When developing websites, I develop to current generation browsers such as Internet Explorer 7, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Apple Safari. While I will not intentionally provide a degraded web experience in older browsers such as Internet Explorer 6, neither will I invest significant time or resources into making sure my sites are backward compatible with IE 6.
IE 6 is a last-generation browser. This means that IE 6 can't provide the same web experience that modern browsers can. Supporting IE 6 means slower progress, less progress, and, in some places, no progress.
The Internet Explorer 6 browser was released back in 2001, and the current version, Internet Explorer 8, was released in 2009. Modern web browsers such as IE, Firefox, Chrome and Safari provide significantly better online experiences. Since IE 6 usage has finally dipped below a small minority threshold of web users, it's time to finally move beyond IE 6.
