began publication in 1886 as a general interest family magazine,
& quickly became a major venue for popular fiction. Issue
copyright renewals began prior to 1923. For some time during the
early 20th century, it combined publication with Hearst's
International Magazine. (Hearst bought the magazine in 1905; the
company still publishes it today.) After Helen Gurley Brown became
editor in 1965, Cosmopolitan became a women's magazine focusing on
sex, romance, health & beauty, & popular culture. The
magazine published today continues that general emphasis, with
multiple editions tailored to different countries; 1886-1922:
Hathi Trust has most volumes through 1922 readable
online(when I checked it was missing volumes 13, 14, 16, 38, 40,
43, & 62 from the first 73 volumes);
