Canada’s Adverse
Drug Reaction Database
16 January 2005
1965 to Sept.30, 2003 data from adverse drug reaction(ADR) reports
in Health Canada's CADRIS database(Canadian Adverse Drug Reaction
Information System); monitor adverse drug reactions in drugs
approved for Canadian market; 1) People filing report suspect an
adverse reaction was caused by a drug. ADR reports do not imply a
causal link between reaction & suspected drug. 2) Some drugs
are more widely used than others. 3) Certain drugs are used only
when a patient is critically ill. 4) Due to under-reporting, it is
impossible to project true rates of adverse reactions based on
information captured by CADRIS; database may be used as a prompt
to ask questions that may not have occurred to you otherwise. 5)
To better understand the data, educate yourself about uses of
drugs involved in returned cases. 6) Risk of an adverse drug
reaction increases with number of medications taken by a patient.
