Time passes as ozEkoala gazes with rapt attention as the sky gradually lightens and Uluru begins to take shape on the horizon...
Suddenly, Dave and Stephanie turn up, running and out of breath, with the news that the campervan is bogged a mile down the track, and they're pointing away from Uluru! The fleeting temptation to gloat over this turn of events is quickly replaced with curiosity and concern... why were they driving away from Uluru? Aha, all is explained now. Someone (kindness prevents me from naming the culprit) had the bright idea that viewing the sunrise from further away would provide a better photo...???... and without thinking drove off down the track, which was clearly marked with warnings about not leaving the sealed road unless driving a 4WD vehicle. At some point it became clear that the advice had been sound, but it was too late! The van was stuck. Excuse me if I scream with frustration, won't you? Thankyou. Now, we better start walking... With all these big strong men around you'd think we could get the thing free in no time wouldn't you? But no, nothing seems to work. Digging around the wheels only seems to make it worse. This bull dust is treacherous stuff alright. Well I, for one, don't intend to completely miss the sunrise over Uluru , so I'm going to just leave the van stuck here for now... |
