Bogged Badly in Bull Dust
Part 1Now, depending on your country of origin, sense of humour, upbringing, and probably several other factors, you may or may not understand the layers of significance in the above title... so being the dedicated tour guide that I always endeavour to be, I will enlighten you. I'll take it word by word at first. Bogged you should know - it means slowed down or stuck in something Badly - self-explanatory In - let's not get pedantic now Bull-Dust - this you may not know - a feature of the Australian outback - extremely fine dust which can lie on the ground to quite a depth while still looking deceptively shallow. As a title there is an obvious meaning - it no doubt refers to a vehicle which has become seriously hindered in it's forward, and most likely its backward, motion due to attempting to move along a track covered in thick dust and losing contact with the firm ground beneath. For those who like to look below the surface of things, and appreciate double meanings, there is a more subtle interpretation. Colloquially, bull-dust can be a term used to refer to fabricated tales such as appeared in the last chapter of these Adventures, and it could be said that the story has become badly bogged-down with the inclusion of that descent into the valleys and canyons of my fevered imagination. Well, my climbing instincts have been stirred to their depths - or should that be heights? The time has come to sweep aside all distractions and get our climbing boots on! I'll expect you here at 5 o'clock tomorrow morning - not a minute later! We want to be out at Uluru to see the sun rise, so don't be late! I know I've let the cat out of the bag again, and you already know another mini-disaster is about to befall us, but that's no reason to hold back... we do get to see the sunrise, so if you miss out I can't be held responsible. We also get to climb the Rock and live to tell the tale, so there is nothing to be afraid of. A bit of bull-dust never hurt anyone! |
