Pet stores

Pet Stores - Are you an animal lover You know what I mean, the kind of person that includes the pet’s name in the bottom of the greeting cards that you send out. Do you call out a greeting to your cat or dog or bird when you walk into the house after being out for a while If you do care this much for animals it is important to make sure that you are providing for their health and care needs. It is important to do this from the time you decide to bring a pet into your home.

Once you have decided that you are going to bring an animal into your family you need to discuss this as a family. Make it clear who is going to be responsible for the care of the pet. Care includes feeding, watering, exercising and grooming. Once the care needs and kind of pet are decided upon, find breeders or pet stores that have good reputations. Do research; make sure that the breeders have the papers for the animals and that the pet stores have regular inspections from health departments. Reputable breeders and pet stores will allow you to take the animal to a veterinary clinic prior to finalizing the sale of the animal.

On the day that you are to pick up the animal make an appointment with a veterinarian. Explain to the breeder or pet stores owners that you are taking the animal to be checked out. If they do not agree with this arrangement do not purchase the animal. By doing the check up prior to bringing the animal home you will avoid emotional attachments that often start very quickly with animals, especially baby animals. If the veterinarian finds anything wrong with the animal return it and find a healthy one. You will be out the cost of the clinic visit, but it could save you a great deal of money by avoiding a sick animal. Pet stores, especially those in malls, tend to make emotional sales. They place puppies, kittens and bunnies in their windows in an effort to lure people and especially children into making a purchase. Adding a pet into your life is a big decision with a great deal of responsibility and it should not be done on impulse.

Another tip when considering a pet is not to give one as a gift to someone, unless you live in the same house with them, or have discussed giving them a pet. People need to prepare their homes and their lives for the added responsibility of a pet and it should not be sprung on them as a surprise.
